I have been an educator in Florida for the last 21 years. I received my undergraduate degree in Political Science from Florida State University and my Master’s degree in Social Studies education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. Beginning as a Social Studies teacher, I spent ten years teaching a subject that I love. The last 11 years I have served as a Dean and as Assistant Principal for Lincoln High School. I am very pleased to serve as Fairview’s Principal. The prospects that lie ahead of us are exciting. I look forward to working with the students, teachers, and parents to continue to build upon Fairview’s success.

I believe that: all students should experience educational triumphs, that Fairview will become an A school, that all students should receive a well-rounded education that will serve them as they mature, and that Fairview will provide a strong foundation for our students' continuing education.

On a more personal note, I have been married to Cathrine for 19 years. We have one son, Drew, and a dog, Bailey. In my free time I like to spend time with my family, travel, coach my son’s sports teams, and play basketball.

Everyone must have access to a quality education. We all have the responsibility of making sure this truth is protected and fulfilled. As an educator in Leon County for 20+ years I want all students to have opportunities for success in education and in life. The method of delivery, the technologies, the types of evaluation, and the students will and do change. As educators we must meet students where they are and, using various methods of delivery and technologies, bring students from where they are to where they need to be to be a prosperous adult.

I have been in the Leon County School system for 35 years. My philosophy of Education is that all children can learn and the primary purpose of any educational system is to prepare students to live a productive and independent life. I also am convinced that the educational community, consisting of teachers, staff, parents, students, neighbors, and businesses must work in tandem to maximize the successful output of the system. Put simply, the more involved the educational community the better the student product.

I was born in Natchez, Mississippi but grew up in the great city of St. Louis, Missouri. I graduated high school with my IB diploma, and then graduated from Florida State University in May of 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education, as well as an ESOL Endorsement. I went on to earn my Reading and Gifted Endorsement. I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in English Education with a specialization in Educational Leadership at Florida State University.

Philosophy
One of my tenets of philosophy of education is that every child should be given an opportunity to succeed, as well as the skills, support and encouragement needed to achieve that success. I work hard to make sure every student is able to feel the joy of learning and achievement, be it in an academic subject or another outside area of interest.

Experience
I taught Language Arts and Intensive Reading at Belle Vue Middle School before coming to Fairview. The many hats I wore in addition to teaching included Language Arts department head, SITE Committee representative, Leon County Reading Council representative, SGA Sponsor, 8th Grade Sponsor, Yearbook Sponsor and Newsletter Editor.  I also attended and completed the Florida State Writing Project, a division of the National Writing Project, during the summer of 2005. Through this experience, I was able to publish my literary work in an FSU publication, Bridges. I was also invited to co-teach break-out sessions at the First and Second Annual Florida State Writing Summit.

Hobbies
When I'm not  at FMS, I love to read and write! My absolute favorite books include Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy and The Watsons Go To Birmingham:1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis.
I also LOVE sports – especially football and baseball! My favorite teams are the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Rams, and, of course, FLORIDA STATE! Go Noles!
